President Trump is widely backed by white evangelical protestants despite support being contested within other religious groups.
In a study released on Monday by The Pew Research Center, white evangelical protestants approve of Mr. Trump’s tenure as president by 69 percent, down from 78 percent since the first days of his presidency.
Overall, Catholics voters supported the president at a rate of 36 percent, with 44 percent of white members backing him and non-white Catholics at 26 percent.
52 percent of Mormons, 24 percent of Jews and 18 percent of Muslims agreed with this sentiment.
Only one in five religiously unaffiliated Americans, including atheism, agnosticism or unspecified, reported approving Mr. Trump’s time as president.
The survey questioned 1,505 and the margin of error was plus/minus three percent.
