MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department is reminding anglers to remove their ice fishing shanties from waterways before the ice weakens.

State law requires the shanties to be removed before the ice becomes unsafe or can no longer support the shanty out of the water or before the last Sunday in March - whichever comes first.

All supports and debris must also be removed.

The department says the fine for leaving a shanty on the ice can be $1,000. Shanties may not be left at state fishing access areas.
