BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The Burlington School Board has voted to fire a high school guidance director who lost his teaching license due to charges of unprofessional conduct.

The school board confirmed they voted unanimously Monday night to immediately terminate Mario Macias’ employment. WCAX-TV reports Macias was still employed at Burlington High School despite the state revoking his teaching license last month.

Macias’ lawyer says he plans to appeal the license revocation prior to a deadline later this week.

The state hearing panel previously found that Macias created a hostile work environment, was incompetent at his job and inappropriately confronted a student witness in his investigation.
