PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The average price of a gasoline in Rhode Island is on the way up.

AAA Northeast said Monday that its latest survey found self-serve, regular selling for an average of $2.40 per gallon, 4 cents higher than a week ago.

Despite the higher price, Rhode Island drivers are paying 7 cents less than the national average for a gallon of gas.

A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was 13 cents higher at $2.53.

AAA said the rising prices are due to several factors, including increasing demand, fluctuating oil prices, and decreasing supplies.

AAA found gas selling for as low as $2.27 to as a high as $2.59 per gallon.
