OPINION:
The case of Christopher Watts captured worldwide attention (“Colorado man discloses details about killing wife, daughters,” Web, March 7). Social media has buzzed with discussion groups. The horrific and sudden obliteration of these innocent victims at the hands of their husband and father was unfathomable.
It is apparent from all indications that Shanann Watts was a devoted mother who deeply loved her children. Her social media postings were prolific, and one could easily see what a dedicated mother, wife, friend, daughter and sister she was. She was ambitious and highly successful in her home-based career pursuits and was a stay-at-home mom.
Though this was a crime of domestic violence, it did not embrace the typical cycle of violence and escalation that is usually present in crimes of this nature. In fact, Chris Watts even admitted there was no history of violence in his marriage.
The murders came as a shock to those who knew the victims. The girls and their mother captured the hearts of not only those who knew them, but those, like myself, who never personally met them. The world has mourned the loss of these precious lives that were senselessly and viciously cut short.
In life, Shanann Watts was a bright star. In death, she has left a powerful imprint of inspiration, admiration and motivation for others to shine. May she and her children rest in peace.
