OPINION:
The mainstream media, and now conservative media, too, have adopted the term “climate change deniers” or “doubters” for any scientists who have data that does not support all levels of the contention that global warming or climate change is “real, dire and man-made.” The mainstream media is proficient in coining names for things to give a negative connotation to anyone not accepting of their preferred spin on an issue.
I have done a lot of research on climate change, and in the many books and journal articles written with opposing data on various details, I haven’t come across any scientists who argue that climate change doesn’t exist. There are many temperature records showing the rise in Earth’s temperatures since 1700. On the other hand, a large fraction of meteorologists don’t believe that the climate impact is as dire as hypothesized by some. Many meteorological records show that the number and severity of storms is not increasing in the fashion predicted by climate alarmists. The cost is undoubtedly increasing because of increased populations along hurricane tracks and the rising cost for repairs of any kind, but don’t confuse that with the number of storms.
Astronomers are inclined to doubt the total extent of the “man-made” hypothesis because solid records show that the increase in temperatures has been paralleled by a similar increase of the amount of solar energy striking Earth. They don’t doubt the existence of warming, they just doubt the fullness of man’s role.
There is lots of room for healthy scientific debate on many aspects of the climate narrative, so let’s not squelch the scientific method.
