NEW YORK (AP) - A Brooklyn neighborhood in New York City is installing giant planters to stop illegal parking from giant tractor trailer trucks.

Coffee shop owner Hazel De Los Reyes says the trucks can stay in place for days, and one time prevented the fire department from being able to find her store. WCBS-TV reports the local community board has taken to install 11-foot-wide planters on the street.

Community Board 7 member Jeremy Laufer says the planters leave enough of a space for smaller box trucks and cars to park while blocking big rigs from parking.

The board says police have occasionally been enforcing fines, but notes that they have bigger problems to deal with than towing big rig trucks. The board has approved the installation of many more planters.
