CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) - A large foot alligator terrified a Florida resident when it broke into a home and wandered around the kitchen, knocking over several wine bottles in its path.
Clearwater Police say the frightened homeowner hid in the bedroom last week, telling a 911 operator they weren’t leaving until police arrived. A newspaper delivery person also called police around 3:30 a.m. to report the late night intruder. Officials said the gator was 10 or 11-feet long.
Police spokeswoman Joelle Castelli said the male gator entered the home through low windows and knocked over several wine bottles and suffered a few small cuts during its capture.
She told Florida Today the gator could be taken to a private farm in Fort Meade if it’s a candidate for relocation.
Wildlife officials say gator mating season happens in May and June.
