MERIDIAN, Miss. (AP) - Police suspect that a man found dead in an eastern Mississippi creek was killed.

Meridian police Capt. John Griffith says a woman walking along a creek in the city found the body Sunday morning.

Griffith says police suspect foul play.

No identification was found on the body, which was sent to the state crime lab in Pearl for an autopsy. Police say the man wasn’t wearing any shoes.

Lauderdale County Coroner Clayton Cobler says the man had several cuts on his head. He says the man died Saturday night or Sunday morning, and says the body could have been in the water as long as eight hours.
