GRETNA, La. (AP) - A sting operation has led to the arrest of a corrections officer accused of smuggling contraband into a Louisiana jail.
Nola.com/The Times-Picayune reports 25-year-old Jared Ordonez was arrested Thursday in Gretna. Jefferson Parish detectives say a tip led to the sting.
Investigators say Ordonez thought a person was paying him to give a cellphone to a Jefferson Parish Correctional Center inmate. That person was actually an investigator. Detectives found the phone during a search of Ordonez’s home.
Ordonez is being held without bail on charges including malfeasance, conspiracy and child desertion.
His wife, 24-year-old Shanin Ordonez, was issued summonses for marijuana possession and child desertion.
Officers say the couple’s 4-year-old son was home alone when they searched the house.
It’s unclear whether the couple had an attorney who could comment.
