EL CAJON, Calif. (AP) - A motorist was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence following a crash that injured a California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer.

Officials say the crash happened late Thursday on Interstate 8 in El Cajon as the officer was attempting to re-enter traffic after stopping to help a driver whose car had broken down.

CHP Officer Travis Garrow tells the Los Angeles Times a white Chevrolet Camaro traveling at a high rate of speed sideswiped the motorcycle. Garrow says the officer sustained injuries to the lower part of his body that were “moderate to major,” but not life-threatening.

The Camaro driver, who has not been identified, could face charges including DUI.
