DENVER (AP) - A Colorado man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for the shooting death of his neighbor.

The Denver Post reports that 33-year-old Michael Kourosh Sadeghi was sentenced Monday for killing 42-year-old Dustin Schmidt in March 2018.

Sadeghi was convicted of first-degree murder last month.

Authorities say Schmidt’s girlfriend’s dog jumped a fence between the properties of the two men in the Denver suburb of Thornton.

Police say the dog was hanging on the fence by its leash and Schmidt pulled the animal back to his side, but an argument ensued between the men.

Police say Sadeghi shot Schmidt four times over the fence.

Schmidt was pronounced dead at the scene.

A prosecutor says Sadeghi has a “complete lack of remorse” for killing Schmidt, who was unarmed.
