BEND, Ore. (AP) - Authorities say one person is dead and another injured after a single-engine amphibious plane crashed into the Deschutes River.
KTVZ-TV reports that the plane crashed after taking off from Sunriver Airport on Saturday morning. It flipped and sank.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said it wasn’t clear why the pilot attempted to land on the river, but the nose went into the water.
By the time deputies arrived, several witnesses were on top of the plane trying to help, including the passenger, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.
