WISCASSET, Maine (AP) - A Maine man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for causing a fatal crash while under the influence of methamphetamine and THC, the active ingredient of cannabis.
The Kennebec Journal reports that 26-year-old Patrick Shorey, who has lived in both Augusta and Waterville, was sentenced May 28 for vehicular manslaughter and other charges.
Shorey struck a station wagon driven by 75-year-old Carolyn Blouin of Rockville, Connecticut, while driving south on Route 27 in Dresden in June 2017. Blouin died at the scene. Her 81-year-old husband, Charles, suffered several broken bones, including a leg and a hip.
Shorey didn’t have a driver’s license at the time.
Shorey expressed remorse in a written court statement and described his unstable upbringing with a mother who was addicted to drugs.
