Lawmakers pass bill that that helps state beer, cider makers

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut lawmakers have approved legislation to modernize the state’s liquor laws and help the growing craft beer industry.

The House of Representatives on Saturday voted 140-5 in favor of the wide-ranging legislation , which increases the amount of beer craft brewers can sell, from nine liters to nine gallons for off-premises consumption.

The bill, which previously cleared the Senate, also allows hard cider manufacturers to sell cider and apple wine by the glass and bottle to visitors to consume on the premises. Manufacturers of craft beer, cider and now mead, a drink made with fermented honey, can sell one another’s products under the bill, which now awaits Democratic Gov. Ned Lamont’s signature.

Democratic Rep. Michael D’Agostino of Hamden says lawmakers “really dragged this whole industry into the 21st century with this bill.”
