PICAYUNE, Miss. (AP) - Crews will soon start working on a $25 million highway expansion project in south Mississippi.

WLOX-TV reports U.S. Highway 11 will be widened to four driving lanes and a turn lane in and around the city of Picayune.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation says that in about 18 months, workers will start replacing a bridge over a creek. The new bridge will include a pedestrian walkway.

The Picayune Item reports that city officials voted in June 2018 to relocate utility lines for the highway expansion.

Picayune is near the Louisiana state line about 50 miles (80 kilometers) northeast of New Orleans.
