REYNOLDS, Ga. (AP) - Officials say a man is dead and a child injured after a freight train struck a car at a railroad crossing in central Georgia.

WMAZ-TV reports the crash happened Thursday afternoon in Reynolds, about 40 miles (64 kilometers) southwest of Macon. Reynolds Police Chief Lonnie Holder said the man and child were in a car crossing the tracks when the vehicle got hit by a Norfolk Southern train.

Reynolds Mayor Butch Turner said the train pushed the car about half a mile (0.8 kilometers).

The driver of the car died, and an 11-year-old child was taken to a hospital. Turner said he did not know how badly the child was hurt.

The dead driver’s name was not immediately released.
