OLD BRIDGE, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a burglary suspect speeding away from a home he had tried to enter was killed in a head-on crash on a central New Jersey highway.

Middlesex County prosecutors say Dwayne Melvin was westbound on Route 516 in Old Bridge when he crossed into an eastbound lane and collided with a pickup truck around 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The 47-year-old Aberdeen man was flown to a hospital but was pronounced dead there a short time later. The pickup truck driver and his two passengers were all hospitalized with serious injuries but are expected to recover.

Prosecutors say Melvin was traveling at “an excessive speed” as he fled from a residential burglary and another attempted burglary that both occurred in Old Bridge. But further details on those incidents were not disclosed.
