CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (AP) - Police say 18 people have been arrested during a protest outside a Rhode Island detention facility used by federal immigration officials.
About 200 people gathered outside the Donald W. Wyatt Detention Facility in Central Falls to protest the Trump administration’s immigration policies.
The protest was part of a national campaign by the national Jewish youth movement Never Again.
Among those arrested for blocking vehicle access to the facility was Aaron Regunberg, a former state representative and lieutenant governor candidate.
Regunberg said in a statement to The Providence Journal the protest was about understanding “a gradual process of legal exclusion and state-sponsored dehumanization.”
As of three weeks ago, there were 120 federal immigration detainees at Wyatt.
Wyatt officials declined to comment and ICE did not respond to the newspaper’s requests for comment.
