LOWELL, Mass. (AP) - More than 30 people were displaced from their homes and one firefighter was injured after a fire broke out at an apartment building in Lowell.
WBZ-TV reports that when fire crews responded to the Cross Street building Saturday morning, flames were pouring out the back. Lowell fire officials said one firefighter suffered minor injuries at the scene.
All 36 residents were able to leave the building on their own and none were reported injured. The Red Cross says it arrived to help those displaced by the fire.
The fire has since been extinguished and the building was knocked down. Lowell Fire Deputy Chief Bob Destrempe said firefighters did a great job, noting that “at the beginning, it was pretty tough.”
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
