RICHMOND, Vt. (AP) - Police in the Vermont town of Richmond are urging people to be careful where they park on rural roads when they visit swimming holes or go hiking.

Richmond police say dirt roads can sometimes be more narrow than paved main roads and when cars are improperly parked they can reduce traffic down to one lane making it difficult for first responders and safety equipment to travel where needed.

Authorities say they have seen increased activity at the Huntington Gorge in recent weeks.

Police say they have had to tow several vehicles that were parked on the travel portion of the road and plan to boost enforcement.
