LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas and Democratic challenger Josh Mahony are kicking off next year’s Senate race with events in Little Rock this weekend.

Cotton plans to formally kick off his campaign on Saturday at the state Republican Party headquarters in Little Rock. Cotton was first elected to the Senate in 2014 after defeating incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor.

Mahony is also holding a kickoff event in Little Rock at Curran Hall, part of a series of events launching his campaign that has also included stops in El Dorado and Fayetteville.

Mahony is trailing Cotton in fundraising, reporting earlier this month that he had about $51,000 in the bank. Cotton reported having $3.5 million in the bank.
