Washoe County may take a year to hire new school boss

RENO, Nev. (AP) - The Washoe County School Board says it will take up to a year to hire a new superintendent.

The board voted Tuesday to hire a replacement for Traci Davis by the start of the 2020 school year next August.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports board members said they didn’t want to be in a rush given the poor track record with the past two superintendents.

Davis was fired earlier this month for misconduct. She had been hired in 2014 to replace Pedro Martinez, who served had only two years before he was dismissed.

School Board President Katy Simon Holland says she didn’t want to try a new superintendent by January because there will be more top-level candidates available when the upcoming school year is finished. She says they’ll discuss more details about plans for the search next month.
