LEWISTON, Maine (AP) - Part of a bomber that’s meant to be a salute to the Air Force has arrived at Veterans Memorial Park in Lewiston, Maine.
The park already has an Army jeep, a 5-inch rotating gun, an anchor, and a shell from the USS Maine.
The 44-foot Corsair A-7 attack bomber is meant to represent the Air Force.
The plane was so big that it’s being shipped from Montana in two parts. The plane’s fuselage arrived Monday; the wings will arrive later. Eventually, it’ll be placed on a mount that makes it appear that it’s in flight.
The Corsair last flew in Panama in 1991 following Operation Just Cause. It has been sitting mostly forgotten at an airfield in Helena, Montana.
