Authorities: Girl, 6, drowns at summer camp near Los Angeles

ALTADENA, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a 6-year-old girl has drowned at a summer camp near Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is investigating Friday’s death at Summerkids Camp in Altadena as an accident.

Summerkids released a statement saying grief counselors have been made available to campers, staff and parents.

The Los Angeles Times reports it’s the first death in the camp’s 41-year history.

The sprawling property at the edge of the Angeles National Forest offers programs for children from age 3 through junior high.
