OLD BRIDGE, N.J. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the death of a man while he was being arrested at a central New Jersey apartment complex.
Old Bridge police went to the Stratford Apartments around 12:30 a.m. Monday after someone reported a man was causing a disturbance inside a neighbor’s apartment. They found 49-year-old Frank Zampini there and handcuffed him because he was combative.
Zampini soon became unresponsive and officers began CPR. Emergency responders were also called to the apartment, but Zampini was pronounced dead in the unit a short time later.
The state Attorney General’s Office will investigate the incident, which is standard procedure when someone dies while in police custody.
Further information on Zampini’s death and the disturbance call has not been released.
