PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The average cost of a gallon of gasoline in Rhode Island has soared 6 cents in the past week.
AAA Northeast reported Monday that self-serve, regular is now selling for an average of $2.75 per gallon. That’s 4 cents per gallon lower than the national average and 14 cents lower than the Rhode Island price a year ago.
AAA spokeswoman Diana Imondi says more expensive crude oil prices, robust demand, and decreasing supply all contributed to the higher costs. So far, Hurricane Barry appears to have had little impact on prices.
AAA found self-serve, regular selling for as low as $2.59 per gallon in Rhode Island and as high as $2.99.
