PICAYUNE, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the September 2017 shooting death of his brother.

The Picayune Item reports 60-year-old Steven Eric Stuart was sentenced June 25 in Pearl River County Circuit Court.

He pleaded guilty to manslaughter in April for the killing of 53-year-old John Wesley Stuart. Investigators said the younger Stuart was shot multiple times at a family home in Poplarville.

Steven Stuart originally was charged with murder, which carried a maximum sentence of life in prison. District Attorney Hal Kittrell says the family of multiple siblings agreed to allow Steven Stuart to plead to manslaughter, which carries a maximum of 20 years.
