PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia man accused of killing Temple University student Jenna Burleigh is contending that his roommate is responsible for the 22-year-old woman’s death - a statement that police believe is a lie.
Assistant District Attorney Jason Grenell said in his opening statements Tuesday that evidence will show 30-year-old Joshua Hupperterz beat and strangled Burleigh after she objected to a sex act. Philly.com reports Hupperterz faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison if he is convicted of first-degree or second-degree murder.
Hupperterz admitted on Tuesday that he stuffed Burleigh’s body into a storage bin and attempted to hide the bin at the homes of relatives. He still contends his roommate - who has not been charged or implicated by police - killed Burleigh.
