COLUSA, Calif. (AP) - Authorities in Northern California say two men were killed when a small plane they were in crashed into a pond in a rural area.

The Colusa County Sheriff’s office said Tuesday deputies found the bodies of 66-year-old Jeffrey Webber, of Healdsburg, California, and 71-year-old Lionel Robin, of Arnaudville, Louisiana, in the plane’s wreckage.

The office says the deputies responded to the scene after receiving a report from federal aviation officials that a private small plane carrying two passengers and a dog had crashed Monday about 2 ½ miles (4 kilometers) south of Colusa.

Deputies also found a badly injured dog in a nearby roadway.

The office says the Federal Aviation Administration and National Traffic Safety Board are investigating what caused of the plane to crash.
