WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina police charged a suspect with pointing a gun at officers during an extended foot chase.

The Winston-Salem Police Department said in a release the chase began Sunday when officers were searching for 40-year-old Michael Lorenzo King on outstanding warrants.

When officers approached King, they say he drew a handgun and pointed it at them before fleeing. An officer heard what sounded like a gunshot during the foot chase.

Authorities say King then entered a home, brandished a gun and took an occupant’s vehicle. An officer fired a gun and hit the car but not the suspect. King was later caught after crashing the car, according to the release.

King faces multiple charges including assaulting officers with a firearm.

No phone listing could be found for King.
