MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Officials say two elderly people were killed in a house fire in Tennessee.
Memphis Fire Department spokesman Wayne Cooke said in a statement that fire and emergency crews responded to a blaze at a one-story, wood-frame house in Memphis on Saturday.
Firefighters searched the house and found a man and a woman in a hallway near a rear door. Cooke says they suffered second-degree burns and smoke inhalation. They later died at a hospital.
The victims were identified Monday as 85-year-old Calvin Fentress and 79-year-old Annie Fentress. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Officials said the home did have a working smoke alarm.
