PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Authorities are investigating separate collisions involving police cruisers in Rhode Island and in Connecticut.
Police in Providence say an SUV crashed into a cruiser at the intersection of Arch Street and Elmwood Avenue shortly before 4 a.m. on Sunday, causing major damage to both vehicles.
WPRI-TV reports that the officer was treated and released from a hospital after the crash. Police say the driver of the SUV, who was not immediately identified, was also taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries and faces charges including driving under the influence.
State police in Hartford say a trooper was taken to a hospital for evaluation after a cruiser was rear-ended by another vehicle on Interstate 84 shortly after 10 p.m. on Saturday night. No other details were immediately released.
