DENVER (AP) - Witnesses say a woman’s leg was severed when she was ejected from a light rail train that derailed during a snowstorm in suburban Denver earlier this week.
Jeremiah Jasso tells The Denver Post that he started helping search for the woman’s foot and ankle following the R Line train derailment in Aurora on Monday morning.
He says he found the woman’s shoe before a firefighter located her limb underneath the train.
The woman was reported to be hospitalized in stable condition.
Aurora fire officials say they transported six people to a hospital after the crash.
Regional Transportation District spokeswoman Laurie Huff says the train operator has been placed on paid administrative leave as a review is conducted.
Aurora police say they are investigating speed and weather conditions as possible factors.
