A snowstorm has sent cars and trucks sliding during the morning commute in northern New England. Next up, after residents shovel out, is a deep freeze.
A plow truck knocked over a utility pole Tuesday morning on Route 302 in Windham, Maine, snarling traffic. And a vehicle rolled over in Cumberland, Maine.
Many schools were delayed or canceled.
Tom Hawley from the National Weather Service said around 5 inches of snow fell in Portland, Maine, and in Manchester, New Hampshire. But snowfall varied by location. Old Orchard Beach, Maine, saw 8 inches of snow. And Franconia and Bartlett, New Hampshire, had 9 inches of snow.
Colder air will take hold by Wednesday night, with widespread wind chills of 10 to 20 below by Thursday morning.
