WASHINGTON, Ga. (AP) - A sheriff’s office in Georgia says a teen deputy has died in a two-car wreck that left a woman hospitalized.

News outlets report that Glascock County Sheriff Jeremy Kelley said 19-year-old Deputy Joshua Ryer Jr. of Gibson died in a wreck Tuesday. Kelley says Ryer was headed to a youth detention center in Washington, about 45 miles (72 kilometers) northwest of Augusta, when the wreck happened.

A woman in the other car was taken to an Augusta hospital for treatment. There was no word on her name or condition. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the wreck.

The sheriff says Ryer started work in September and dreamed of becoming a federal law enforcement officer.
