NEWARK, Del. (AP) - Authorities say no one was injured when a fire broke out inside a University of Delaware biomedical engineering building.
University spokesman Peter Bothum tells The News Journal that the only student inside the building Wednesday night was mixing hydrochloric and nitric acids when the fire started. Bothum says damage was largely contained to a water bath and a fume hood. It’s still unclear what caused the fire.
Aenta Hose Hook and Ladder Deputy Chief Jeff Sands says the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Hazmat teams were called in as a precaution.
Hazmat crews were previously called to the campus in September, when two graduate students were injured in a chemical lab explosion.
