CHICAGO (AP) - Operations at Chicago’s two major airports continue despite the frigid temperatures blanketing the state.
By late Tuesday, 284 flights had been cancelled at O’Hare International Airport, and 283 flights had been cancelled at Midway International Airport.
According to the Chicago Department of Aviation, delays at both airports were averaging less than 15 minutes.
With the National Weather Service forecasting wind chills of 46 degrees below zero in Chicago, aviation officials are advising workers at the airports on how to stay warm.
Spokeswoman Lauren Huffman says employees are being advised to wear several layers of loose clothing and to keep their heads, hands and feet covered when outdoors.
Huffman says additional staff has been deployed to monitor operations and additional heating provided for workers and equipment.
Passengers are advised to check with their airlines and to allow plenty of time for travel.
