PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say a man is dead and three other people seriously injured after a car crash in west Phoenix.

Police say an SUV swerved into oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle around 7 a.m. Sunday.

They say 27-year-old Rodolfo Gaitan Jr. was driving the SUV and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two passengers - a 28-year-old woman and young girl - were taken to a hospital in extremely critical condition.

Police say the 60-year-old driver of the other vehicle suffered serious injuries that don’t appear to be life-threatening.

They say a 19-year-old man and 27-year-old woman who were passengers escaped injury.

Police investigators don’t immediately know if impairment or inattention is to blame for the fatal crash, which is under investigation.
