CHICAGO (AP) - A suburban Chicago high school’s marching band didn’t let a nearby fire derail their participation in California’s annual Rose Parade.
The Lincoln-Way band from New Lenox was marching in Tuesday’s parade in Pasadena when a float in front of it caught fire and backed up other floats until it was towed away.
WBBM-TV reports no one was hurt and the band of about 280 Lincoln-Way students just kept marching and playing.
Band member Madisen Tomaszewski tells the station she smelled smoke and realized the float was on fire when the band marched past it.
She says the fire made the band’s trip to California more memorable because now she and her friends can “laugh about the float that caught on fire and how we just kept on marching.”
