PHOENIX (AP) - A charter school operator who formerly was an Arizona legislator has been appointed to the state Board of Education.

Gov. Doug Ducey’s office said Thursday that Armando Ruiz will replace Jared Taylor as the public member on the board.

After serving in the Arizona House and Senate in 1981, Ruiz was a policy aide to Gov. Fife Symington and he founded a company that operates three charter schools.
