BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Two Burlington, Vermont, police officers are being suspended for three weeks without pay for drinking some beer they confiscated from a group of minors and improperly disposing of the rest.

Burlington Police Chief Brandon del Pozo announced Friday the officers also will be placed on probation for one year during which time additional “substantiated misconduct” will result in their being fired. The officers’ names weren’t released.

An investigation found the officers conducted a traffic stop on Dec. 7 in which they found minors with alcohol. They drank some of the beer they confiscated. Other officers alerted superiors that the beer had not been properly disposed of.

Del Pozo says the officers were forthcoming, but their actions hurt the reputation of police.
