AURORA, Colo. (AP) - Authorities have identified the man who died while wearing body armor in a shootout with police in a Denver suburb.

The Aurora Sentinel reports the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office says 42-year-old Esmond Drauvon Trimble died of gunshot wounds Tuesday.

Aurora police spokesman Anthony Camacho says officers had responded to a report of an armed man who was “acting erratically” in a house.

Police say they heard gunfire as they neared the Aurora home. The armed man later identified as Trimble confronted officers who exchanged gunfire, eventually shooting him.

Police proceeded to enter the home where they found 58-year-old Dean Craig Heerdt on the floor.

The coroner’s office says Heerdt died of gunshot wounds.

No Aurora officers were injured in the shootout.

Aurora and Denver police are investigating the shootings.
