HERKIMER, N.Y. (AP) - Investigators have ruled a fire that killed three young boys in the Mohawk Valley was accidental and caused by an electrical malfunction.

The boys killed in the pre-dawn fire in Herkimer on Friday were identified Monday as 1-year-old Jackson, 6-year-old Richard and 7-year-old Michael DeCarlis. Herkimer fire officials say their parents climbed out windows after being awakened by smoke alarms and were unable to get back in to save the boys.

In a news release Monday, officials said the fire began in the basement and quickly spread throughout the two-story house.

Funeral services are planned at 1 p.m. Friday at Enea and Ciaccia Family Funeral Home in Frankfort, with calling hours Thursday.
