Firefighters rescue 2 dogs from burning apartment

YONKERS, N.Y. (AP) - Two small dogs have some new best friends after they were rescued from a burning apartment building.

Officials in Yonkers, New York, say the animals were trapped in the structure on Hawthorne Avenue when the fire broke out on the first floor around 3 p.m. Saturday.

All the residents in the multi-story building were able to get out, but firefighters went inside to get the animals.

Officials said there were only minor injuries to people.

The cause is under investigation.
