WINDHAM, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire officials say a Windham police officer was hospitalized after getting hit by a car while directing traffic.

The officer, identified as Chris Van Hirtum, was directing traffic at an intersection following a power outage late Friday afternoon.

Police say the driver of the car stopped and is cooperating with investigators.

Officials said the power outage was caused by a tree that fell, blocking Route 111. Troopers believe malfunctioning traffic signals and glare from the sun contributed to the crash.
