MCCORMICK, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a Texas man has been charged with killing his father after two sets of human remains were found burned behind a mobile home in South Carolina.
The Index-Journal of Greenwood reports a grand jury indicted 29-year-old Jesse Smith of Temple, Texas, last month on a murder charge, as well as two counts of destruction of human remains.
Court records say Smith told state agents he shot Nathan Smith several times at a McCormick home including a final shot to the head and then disposed of his body and Ruth Huetter’s body in a backyard burn pile.
A judge denied Jesse Smith bond after the indictments on Jan. 9, but encouraged prosecutors to decide if he should be charged with murder in Huetter’s death as soon as possible.
