PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Providence police officer has been injured in a crash with a 14-year-old boy who was driving a stolen car.

Police say the crash happened around 3 a.m. Tuesday when the teen struck the back of another vehicle.

The stolen car then crossed over the center line and struck the police cruiser.

Police say the officer was treated and later released from Rhode Island Hospital.

The teen fled the scene on foot and was later caught and charged. The teen’s name is being withheld due to his age.

Police say the driver of the first vehicle that was struck has been hospitalized with neck pain.
