FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - A suspect that led police on a foot chase that preceded a Fort Wayne officer’s collapse and subsequent death has been sentenced to three years in prison.
WANE-TV reports 49-year-old Patrick A. Faiers of Fort Wayne was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to burglary, resisting police and driving after a lifetime suspension of his license.
Officer David A. Tinsley helped chase Faiers down Sept. 10 after the suspect crashed a vehicle that had been reported stolen. Tinsley, his police dog and an officer in training searched on foot before Faiers was arrested in a wooded area.
Tinsley collapsed after Faiers was captur ed. The 50-year-old died later at a hospital. An autopsy found he died of cardiovascular disease.
