HOUGHTON, Mich. (AP) - The construction of snow statues for Michigan Technological University’s annual Winter Carnival has resumed after being put on hold last week due to the extreme cold.

WLUC-TV reports work is underway again at the Upper Peninsula school.

The cold snap brought bitterly cold temperatures, canceling some classes last week at the Houghton school. Officials said it was unsafe to work on the snow statues in that kind of cold. Temperatures eased over the weekend.

Students typically pull an all-nighter starting Wednesday night to finish the statues before Thursday’s judging. Awards will be handed out Saturday.
